Charles Vaughan represents clients in litigation matters, bringing a strong foundation in courtroom procedure, legal research, and trial-court decision-making. Before joining Davis, Burch & Abrams, Charles served as a judicial clerk in Hanover County Circuit Court, where he worked closely with judges across the 15th Judicial Circuit.
During his clerkship, Charles reviewed and summarized thousands of civil and criminal matters, observed hundreds of hearings, participated in more than a dozen jury trials, drafted letters of opinion, and conducted extensive legal research. That experience gave him a practical view of how trial courts evaluate facts, apply procedural rules, and respond to advocacy in real time.
Charles’s litigation approach is shaped by that courtroom exposure. He understands the importance of clear briefing, evidentiary precision, organized presentation, and credibility before the court. For business clients, that means helping develop arguments that are not only forceful, but structured in a way courts can follow and act on.
Charles’s clerkship experience gives him a useful perspective on the mechanics of litigation. He has seen how judges approach motions, evidentiary disputes, trial preparation, jury trials, and written opinions from inside the courthouse.
That background helps him support clients and trial teams in matters where the record, procedural posture, and presentation of key facts can shape the outcome. His work is grounded in careful preparation, focused legal analysis, and attention to how arguments are likely to be received by the court.
Charles has substantial experience with legal research and writing in the trial-court setting. As a judicial clerk, he drafted opinion letters and analyzed civil and criminal issues for multiple judges, developing a strong appreciation for concise writing, precise authority, and practical application of procedural rules.
He brings that same focus to litigation matters at Davis, Burch & Abrams, helping clients address disputes with clarity, organization, and a strong understanding of the courtroom environment.
Before joining the firm, Charles served for two years as a judicial clerk in Hanover County Circuit Court. During his second year, he served as Chief Judicial Clerk. He worked with Chief Judge Victoria A.B. Willis, Judge John Overton Harris, Judge David B. Cadell, Jr., Judge Robert Reibach, and other substitute and retired judges.
Charles earned his J.D. from Regent University School of Law and was admitted to practice law in Virginia in 2024.
