Founded in 2014 in a living room, Davis, Burch & Abrams began with a passion for serving entrepreneurs. Our founder started his first business at age 14. After nearly seven years as corporate counsel for a publicly traded company, he left to build a law firm rooted in first principles—prioritizing efficiency and results and staffed by lawyers who think like operators.
What began with one lawyer in Portsmouth has grown into a Virginia-based business law firm advising companies across the Mid-Atlantic and worldwide.
From the beginning, we built DBA around what we call bold efficiency—a balance of pragmatic execution and big, creative strategies that advances business objectives. As a growing corporate law firm, we structure matters deliberately: lean when appropriate, deep when necessary, and resistant to unnecessary bloat or reflexive “memo-to-file” work that does not move the business forward.
Our long-term vision is to grow thoughtfully into a 100-lawyer Mid-Atlantic business law firm by 2040 while preserving the culture, discipline, and commercial focus that define Davis, Burch & Abrams today.

The way a law firm is built directly impacts the results it delivers.
Our structure allows us to move quickly, staff matters efficiently, and focus attention where it matters most. That means fewer layers and strategies designed to create leverage—not unnecessary process.
For our clients, that translates into:

We built this firm to operate differently because our clients operate in competitive, high-stakes environments. They need legal counsel that keeps pace.

Davis Law launches in a living room with a commitment to deliver better lawyering for local businesses.

Davis Law opened a 4,000-square-foot office in the heart of Chesapeake, Virginia, making statewide news for leasing commercial space in the middle of COVID-19—a reflection of our long-term vision and confidence in the region’s business community.

After rebranding as Davis, Burch & Abrams in 2024, the firm expanded into Richmond, Virginia, added seven attorneys, and was recognized for securing the second-largest jury verdict in Virginia for 2025.

DBA’s long-term vision becomes reality—impacting successful businesses while sustaining a culture of healthy, high-performing lawyers.
